Migrate to Canada through Business and Investment Pathways

There are several investment/business pathways to migrate to Canada. Of the various streams available by Immigration Canada, the following is a generalized list of Options for Small Capital Investments of up to USD $375K that would enable Entrepreneur investors and their family members to migrate to Canada.

The following are 3 general pathways for foreign investors, and their immediate families, to migrate to Canada:

  • Start a new business in Canada.
  • Buy an existing operational business in Canada.
  • Buy shares in an active business in Canada.

Options Overviews:

 Option A – Investment amount of USD $275k-$375k.

 Straight to Permanent Residency Pathway – Estimated timeframe to Permanent Residency is 18-24 months.

Highlights:

  • Obtain a government Permanent Residency file number within approximately 6 months from starting the process.  This would be an initial step to obtaining full Permanent Residency in Canada.
  • Eligible family members would be able to apply for Work Permits or Study Authorizations at that stage (4 to 6 months from starting the process).
  • High approval rates (Generally expected to get Permanent Residency once follow through with business plan).
  • Flexibility to have Principal applicants either in Canada or remain in their home country during the process.
  • Midlevel English language proficiency is required of the principal applicant.

General investment requirements:

  • Approximately USD $275k-$375k. Paid in monthly installments over 18 month period as the process advances. 
  • Principal applicant must have net worth greater than USD $500k
  • Must have at least 5 years or management work experience

Option B – Investment amount of USD $115k-$250k

Invest in existing Canadian small business – Apply as a Worker within business. Come to Canada as a Worker (with eligible family members) and apply for Permanent Residency in the future if you qualify.  Applicants typically apply for Permanent Residency after working for minimum 1 year in the business.

Highlights:

  • Work Permit processing times range from 3 months to 8 months, depending on country of origin.
  • Family members would be able to apply for Work Permits or Study Authorizations and can join principal applicant.
  • There are many small businesses to choose from. Flexibility in business type/industry.
  • Midlevel English language proficiency is required of principal applicant. 

General investment requirements:

  • Approximately USD $115k to $250k or more depending on the business you decide to invest in.
  • Must have at least 3 years of relevant or managerial work experience to qualify.

Option C – Investment amount USD $60k-$115k
